A.R.T. announces Rirkrit Tiravanija as its 2023 Artist Honoree!
A.rt R.esources T.ransfer is thrilled to announce Rirkrit Tiravanija as our ninth annual artist honoree.
In 2023, A.R.T. is honoring Tiravanija by distributing 25,000 free art books to 625 public libraries, schools, and prisons in his name. A.R.T. will also produce the online teaching guide "Reading Resources: Rirkrit Tiravanija," sharing the artist's methods and ideas among students and readers.
Tiravanija's deeply collaborative and highly mobile practice engages art as a site for experimentally modeling different modes of being together. Working across and between ethics, ecology, pedagogy, and everyday activities such as cooking, his practice subverts the conventions of museological objects to insist that the artwork's meanings arise in its collective production and use.
We are pleased that our celebration of Tiravanija coincides with the artist's large-scale survey exhibition at MoMA PS1 this fall.
As A.R.T.'s 2023 honoree, Tiravanija follows Luis Camnitzer, Walid Raad, Studio K.O.S., Kara Walker, Roni Horn, Lawrence Weiner, Glenn Ligon, and Martha Rosler.
