Black Point is a photography book by Steel Stillman featuring photos taken between 1979 and 2014; it includes an interview with the artist by Anne Doran. The images presented have been enlarged and cropped by the artist, abstracting the subject matter. Cumulatively, Stillman’s photographs read like a cinematic storyboard. There is a tenderness that radiates from each image, many of which depict Stillman’s childhood home. Each photo is timestamped in bright red with the month and year that it was taken, reminding the reader that Black Point is a rumination on memory, the passage of time, and the snapshots of our surroundings that we carry with us on and into the future.
